Humanist Global Charity , a US based non profit engaged in a number of humanitarian causes has appointed me as their advisor in Uganda.

Humanist Global Charity (HGC) supports humanists and humanist philosophy world-wide; and is primarily active in Subsaharan Africa. HGC support humanist education, sustainable projects managed by humanists, and charitable aid delivered to the poor, to orphans, to refugees, to children with albinism, and others who face suffering and persecution.

Kasese Humanist School has been a great beneficiary of HGC where the Bizoha campus, Kahendero Campus and Kasese Humanist secondary School have been built with massive support from this charity organization.

Schools, boda bodas, gods places, religious gatherings still in lockdown

Today 22nd June 2020, the President of Uganda, Mr. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni spoke to the nation in regard to the Covid19 situation, mentioned on the restrictions, achievements , lockdown tightening areas and restrictions .

President Museveni on Monday said restrictions on boda-bodas, schools, religious gatherings, hawkers, arcades, salons and curfew among others would continue as the country continues to ease the virus induced lockdown.

Mr Museveni, however, adjusted the number of occupants of private cars from three to four, including the driver. He further stressed that all occupants must wear facemasks in a bid to contain the spread of coronavirus.

Worshipers arrested for gathering to pray

A catechist and seven of his followers have been arrested by police in Dokolo district for allegedly gathering together for prayers.

The catechist has been identified as Ivan Ongom who was leading prayers.

The operations commander of Dokolo central police station, Joel Arinaitwe said all the seven suspects were being charged with defying presidential directives under SD Ref. 34/09/06/2020.

Some other suspects included: Jonasio Ocwa 70, Rose Akao 40, Francis Otim 28, Vicky Angwech 32, Ketty Ajok 34 and Ambrose Angura 19.

Prayer is a communication to God/Allah/Bisaka/ or to any of the 5000 + gods so far invented by humanity. ... Prayer is done by those who trust the power of word and thought. Jesus taught people to say the Lord's Prayer. Prayer can be spoken, silent (no talking), or in a song. It can be used to praise God or to ask for something including help and forgiveness.

Questions to ponder about on a critical view:

 Do prayers work

- Is there someone listening to them

- Is there someone to reply to them

- Is there someone to service them

- Cant people figure out solutions to those problems

- Cant people figure out solutions in case what is asked isnt a problem

- How often does a god answer our prayers

- Does god first have to listen to our prayers to answer them back

- To people who have never prayed in life, how do they solve their problems

- Cant a god get annoyed with us owing to the several requests we give to him/her etc.

Public transport resumes , total confusion, more challenges, new rules & lots of frustrations

Public transport and taxi service resumed Thursday in Uganda, nearly three months after they were halted to control the spread of COVID-19, the disease caused by the coronavirus. New restrictions and regulations, mainly on taxis, however, have left many Kampala residents without a ride.

Some districts that borders other neighboring countries are still in the limbo, no public transport is allowed to operate, only private cars are being allowed to move. Kasese District where i come from is a victim of this. People who want to move to their villages cant move and can only do so with a request for person from the area Resident District Commissioner who is a representative of the President of Uganda in the area.

All public transport taxis and buses taking the Kasese route end up in Rwimi. Its a disgrace as to why public transport cant be allowed to reach border districts since we are already living with Covid19 as we work.

There has been easing on the lockdown as most businesses are now open and operational as they also keep in place observance of Covid19 preventive measures and physical distance.

   As usual school reopening hangs in balance till 1st July when we shall receive a communication from the President of Uganda and the Ministry of Education & sports.

Booming firewood business after the floods

There is a booming logs business going on in Kasese areas where the floods caused havoc.

Some trees that were swept in the recent floods are selling like hot cakes among Kasese residents who use firewood for fuel and alsobrick makers are rushing for it in big crowds as the logs are needed to burn the bricks now that a wet season has almost ended.

At Kasese Humanist school, we secured our share on some tree logs that were caught up on the river banks of Nyamwamba and piled them at school.

School reopening extended till after 30 days

Today the President of Uganda addressed the nation in a televised speech he read to the general public aired on all TV sets and radios all over the country in regard to the Covid19 status, lockdown and enforcing or lifting some of the restrictions.

About reopening of schools for candidate classes as earlier on communicated, the President said this is not possible. I quote him in his own words as below.

“We have decided to postpone the re-opening of schools for candidate leaners for another one month as we prepare more and study the situation,” he said, adding that “two television sets per village equals to 140,000 TV sets” for the entire country.

Its very unfortunate that the schools will have to wait but since its a preventive measure , we have deeper reasons to wait and utilise the current procedures like we are doing of home schooling, encouraging learners to use radios, televisons, study online to those who have access to computers and making good use of educational learning packages on sale in several outlets plus accessing educational pass PLE pullouts in local newspapers.
